While some of the new electric vehicles can run on a charge for more than 200 miles, so-called range anxiety among EV owners remains a popular malady. Driving with one eye on the road and another on the state-of-charge gauge of a vehicle can be nerve-wracking, and no one wants to end up stuck with a drained battery on the side of the road.
Fortunately, wringing full miles out of a charge is simple and even extends the range of an EV well beyond its rated reach. Let’s know some reasonable 9 factors to get maximum miles when you hit the road.
1.Drive smoothly
Simply put, at an accelerated rate, lead-footed driving will drain the battery of your EV. It may be tempting to exploit the immediate torque of an EV for quick launches, but when accelerating from a standing start, it is more prudent to take it easy.
2.Slow down
Whenever possible, try to keep your speed under 60 mph. it will enhance your battery range. The Energy Department says that by reducing your speed by 10 mph, you'll use 14 percent less energy. If your EV has an "Eco" mode, engage it for gentler acceleration; keep it off if it has a sport mode that enlivens things
3.Go easy on the heat.
Running an EV heater puts a heavy drain on battery power, especially at full blast. In the winter, dial down the climate control and instead rely on the heated seats and the heated steering wheel to keep things toasty, using far less energy, if your vehicle is so equipped. Also, while it's plugged in, pre-heat your car so you can use the climate control less while driving.
4.Maximize the regenerative breaking
Utilize the energy-recovering regenerative braking function of your EV whenever possible as you come to a stop and use the brakes only when necessary. Allow the maximum regenerative setting of your car to send extra power back to the batteries of the vehicle while decelerating.
5.Be cool with the ac
Likewise, operating the air conditioning at a rapid rate consumes battery power. Wherever possible, try running only the fan and not the compressor; driving with the windows open is an obvious alternative. Unfortunately, at higher speeds, the latter will take a toll on your vehicle's aerodynamics and, in turn, slightly reduce its operating range. This is because, especially at higher speeds, the more aerodynamic "drag" that is placed on a vehicle, the more energy it takes to run it. Operating the AC at full chill, however, will drain the battery much faster than driving with the windows down.
6.Travel light
Any automotive engineer will tell you that reducing the weight of a vehicle is the easiest way to increase its effectiveness. To that end, get the junk out of the trunk, because carrying an extra 100 kilos of cargo can increase the energy consumption of a vehicle by 1-2 percent.
7.Keep it slick
Avoid the installation on your electrical vehicle of exterior accessories such as roof racks and cargo carriers. Again, at higher speeds, the aerodynamic drag such items generate will cause added energy consumption.
8.Plan a more efficient route
By driving on the highway, it may take less time to reach a given destination, but you can help maximize the operating range of your car by choosing a route that allows you to drive steadily at lower speeds instead. Avoid areas where heavy traffic is known. We can google maps also to manage our day today destinations. Added energy is also used to traverse steep grades, so avoid hilly or mountainous areas if possible. If Your vehicle has navigation system use it or google maps to get an idea about efficient route.
9.Time to charge your EV
You don’t need to keep plug in your charger all the time when your vehicle in garage. Because most of EV batteries will slowly self-discharge when it come full. By timing the charge, you can recover a few extra miles of range so that the battery pack is at full strength just before you hit the road. This is also an advantage to keep healthy your battery and enhance the battery life.
